4You are a creator whether you want to be or not. You cannot not create.  Your intent gives rise to your thoughts, your words, and your actions in a sequence of steps that are a part of every creation. Consciously using this process is vital to creating what you want to experience in the world.

Intent  →    Thoughts   →   Words    →   Actions

As an example of this process, let’s imagine that you want to create a small backyard garden. That is your intent. You then begin to think about where the sunlight and soil will be best for it, and what will be needed to maintain it. You talk to others, read what others have written, and ask others for their input. Finally, you reach the point that you act on your plans and voilá—you have created your garden.

The Five Principles operate at the level of intent and thought, which in turn, have an enormous impact upon the words and actions that follow. Most people don’t grasp the immense power their thoughts have to shape their life experiences. They relegate “thinking” to the silent voices in their head—as only thoughts—but thoughts create. For that reason, it’s very important to control which thoughts we allow to flow through our head. They a vital part of the creation process because our words and actions align with them and flow from them.

We are choosy about our cars, our clothes,  and how we like
our coffee—but often we are not choosy about our thoughts.

As you work to integrate the Five Principles, you will literally be remapping your brain. Research has shown that when we consciously replace old thoughts with new ones, we create new neural pathways that result in physiological changes in our brains. The term for this phenomenon is “neural plasticity,” one of the most exciting discoveries in the field of human behavior.

This has huge implications because it means we can create new neural networks and override pre-existing ones. Over time, as a new neural pathway is strengthened through conscious thought, it takes less and less effort to engage in the desired behavioral change. How’s that for the power of thought! We actually change our brain when we change our thoughts.

Making those changes requires consistency. We understand and accept that we have to practice physical skills such as playing the saxophone, singing, or sculpting to become skilled at them. However, we may not realize that we have to practice our thoughts as well to become skilled at thinking with a positive focus. Just as you would not plant weeds in your vegetable garden, it is vital to make sure that the thoughts you are cultivating on a regular basis are the ones that will bring about the harvest you are looking for in your life.
